Nourished Roots

a safe space for childbirth education and women’s pelvic health support

Hi! My name is Aileen, and I am the founder of Nourished Roots.

Nourished Roots was created to empower women throughout their journey, from pre-pregnancy to postpartum and beyond. Using my background as a women’s pelvic health physical therapist and as a certified pregnancy & postpartum corrective exercise specialist, I want to provide resources (downloadable materials, real-time classes, one-on-one consultations, and more). With Lamaze childbirth education classes, my goal is to see women feel confident to fully embrace their unique journey. Having a foundation rooted in the truth of the Word, I aim to establish a nurturing and safe environment for healing and growth; creating a nourished foundation for every woman that passes through.

Take a look around and see if this is the place for you. I look forward to meeting you and helping you through your journey, wherever you may be.

I hope to be able to reach into other areas of the world as well. I want to use the skills, knowledge, and experience I have acquired over the years to go in truth and love to serve and meet needs seen and unseen, in whatever capacity I am able, even beyond women’s health PT and childbirth education as the opportunities arise. Goals

1. To create a space where women feel nourished, refreshed, heard, empowered, informed, championed, cared for, & encouraged.

Too many things in life leave us feeling out of control or overwhelmed. It can be really difficult to finally carve out time to address our own issues. We want to create a space that feels like it was worth it, and not just another thing to fit into the schedule.

2. To be a safe space. There is never “TMI” (too much information) in our one on one consultations.

It can feel embarrassing or uncomfortable talking about pelvic health problems (i.e. pain with intercourse, peeing your pants when you run or sneeze, inability to hold back gas, etc). It can almost feel wrong or taboo to ask about some of these issues in certain circles. We want to be that safe space to navigate through these questions and issues. If we cannot adequately address your concerns, we will work on finding someone who can.

3. To give access to trusted education & one on one consultations, no matter where you are.

It can be hard to find someone you can trust and understand, when living abroad (and sometimes even in the states). It can be difficult to have consistency in care when moving frequently. We would love to be that easy to access, consistent, trusted place for childbirth education and women’s pelvic health needs by offering classes and consultations online and in person as able.

4. To make complex & complicated information simple & understandable.

It can be overwhelming, when you find out you are pregnant, are told you have a prolapse, or just can’t figure out why kegels aren’t enough to solve your issues. It can feel defeating to consistently be told you just need to relax or have a glass of wine to solve your pelvic pain issues (even before getting pregnant). What’s normal and okay to feel in pregnancy? What about postpartum? How can certain issues be addressed? There is so much information available, but it’s not all trustworthy. We want to be a place that can simplify and empower, giving moms confidence with pregnancy, childbirth, postpartum, and beyond. We want to be a trustworthy source to help with pelvic issues for all women (related to pregnancy or not). If it is outside our scope of knowledge or ability, we will make recommendations for how to get further help.

5. To teach women about their bodies & how we were created to function.

So many of us women do not know much about our bodies, in reality. Aileen learned so much more about her own body, when she worked through the continuing education for pelvic PT. We want to share that knowledge with whoever wants to know more. We want to be able to take this into areas around the world, where there is lack of access in other ways. We want to empower women everywhere to know how and why they were created.

In one on one consultations, you will have the opportunity to discuss your pelvic health needs and receive understanding in how to proceed. This can cover a variety of topics like childbirth prep, pregnancy aches and pains, returning to exercise postpartum, postpartum recovery, issues with resolving “ab separation,” pelvic pain (which can be associated with back and/or hip pain), pain with intercourse, prolapse issues, peeing yourself when you laugh/ jump/ etc, inability to hold in gas/ poop, issues from menopause, etc.

If scheduling a one on one consultation seems too daunting, or if you feel like you just have a few questions that you’d rather just email and ask about, this may be the option for you. When you pay for an email consult, you will receive instructions on how to email Aileen, and you will receive a response from her within 48 hours. You will be provided with education and/or exercise ideas to help with your issues in the email response. (Your questions can be about anything related to the same things listed in the one on one consultation description.) Click here to learn more about how it works.

Lamaze is much more than just a way to breath. It is a view of pregnancy and birth as being natural and beautiful. With respect to current research, Lamaze teaches women to trust their bodies and the natural process of pregnancy and labor while preparing for unplanned scenarios. Classes will cover Lamaze’s “Six Healthy Birth Practices” and in group settings, we will encourage community building and group discussions with engaging activities.

In this area, an ongoing library will continue to be built with free and paid for downloads. It will all be in reference to women’s pelvic health, childbirth, or related topics.

Continue to check back for new downloads added over time. Currently there are many resources available, and a few are even FREE to download!

This part of Nourished Roots exists to reach into unreached or hard to reach places. It may be by invitation from other workers on the ground, or sometimes in the midst of disaster or conflict, opportunities arise to serve. Aileen feels called to use the skills, knowledge, and experience she has acquired over the years to go in love to serve and meet needs seen and unseen, in whatever capacity she is able, even beyond women’s health PT and childbirth education.

This is an area with links to trusted friends, organizations, and research related to women’s pelvic health, childbirth, or related topics. Our body, mind, and soul all work together, and there are many working parts to keep in check.

Testimonials

“Dr. Aileen found her calling with pelvic floor physical therapy! After giving birth to my daughter, she helped break up scar tissue from a third degree tear and regain strength. This strength helped me regain confidence, allowed me to exercise (and sneeze) without incontinence, and helped with pain/ tightness in my lower back, buttocks, and thighs. Thanks Dr. Aileen, you’re the best!” -Catherine

“I spent many weeks after my 2nd delivery wondering if I would ever feel better again, and thinking ‘what am I going to do?’ I cannot thank you enough, for not only the physical healing, but the confidence that learning how to strengthen my body gave me. Lots of women need that confidence! I look forward to future pregnancies, knowing that my body can recover and that I have resources to help me. Thank you again, you’re the best!” -Anonymous

“I would recommend Aileen to anyone who struggles with pelvic floor issues! I was diagnosed with Interstitial Cystitis and suffered from side effects of severe back pain, bladder spasm, and muscle tightness. Aileen always made me feel heard and valued. She was very knowledgeable about my diagnosis and shared several exercises and stretches to help relieve my pain.
