Lora Jean is a close friend of mine and new momma. We have worked together many times in the past. I trust her fully with her knowledge of functional medicine, improving fertility, and how to heal the body. Here is what she says:
“As the Homegrown Holistic Nurse I have had the immense privilege to walk with clients who have come from a place of defeat, lacking hope, wondering if, and not feeling heard, to name a few; to seeing clients transform to a mindset of victory, that deeply and positively influences their health, with the application of personalized holistic tools.
Whether you’re brand new to the holistic world of caring for yourself, five years in, just exploring, or ready to jump all in to the experience, you’re welcome here!
If you're ready to do the work, I promise you will experience the change. I am honored that you're here!”
“Our Mission is to help mothers worldwide to breastfeed through mother-to-mother support, encouragement, information, and education, and to promote a better understanding of breastfeeding as an important element in the healthy development of the baby and mother. La Leche League is here to support your family in your feeding journey!
LLL Leaders are volunteer breastfeeding counselors who have nursed their own children, are passionate about the value of human milk and provide support in their communities. Leaders may offer information and resources in-person and by phone, text, email, and social media. Leaders may run a local group and moderate mother-to-mother/parent-to-parent meetings. Many meetings are online and we welcome your participation around the world. Expect a warm welcome, acceptance and non-judgmental support when you contact LLL Leaders or participate in LLL spaces. We offer information and encouragement to everyone who needs it.”
“It's difficult to understand exactly what it’s like to be a military family moving from one duty station to another. Especially from the outside. People would have to personally experience it to understand it.
Continuity of care is strongly needed. Providing support to fill the gaps from the start of pregnancy all the way through postpartum. That's why the Military Birth Resource Network and postpartum coalition exists… supporting healthy, safe, and satisfying pregnancies, births, and postpartum experiences through advocacy and policy that prioritizes equity in access to birth options, lactation education and support, mental health care and culturally competent care for military families across the globe.”
“The mission of Postpartum Support International is to promote awareness, prevention and treatment of mental health issues related to childbearing in every country worldwide (in the US and more than 36 other countries).
It is the vision of PSI that every woman and family worldwide will have access to information, social support, and informed professional care to deal with mental health issues related to childbearing. PSI promotes this vision through advocacy and collaboration, and by educating and training the professional community and the public. Its goal is to provide current information, resources, education, and to advocate for further research and legislation to support perinatal mental health.”
“Our goal is simple; we want all parents to feel confident, supported and powerful. Evidence-Based: All of our recommendations are firmly grounded in the latest research. Respectful: Everyone’s journey to parenthood is unique. We welcome and respect all families. Transformative: We provide trusted information throughout your journey, recommending the safest and healthiest options to parents without judgment. The Lamaze Six Healthy Birth Practices are based upon the most recent, evidence-based research. They are recommendations to help ease the birthing process and instill confidence. While some may have unique circumstances, all parents can benefit from understanding the options and information available to them.”
This is one of my favorite resources for being able to understand current research worldwide on topics surrounding pregnancy, labor, birth, and postpartum care of mother and baby. While I don’t fully align with all their personal views, I do appreciate the non-biased way they present the research. They have a podcast too.
“We envision a world in which all birthing families have access to safe, respectful, evidence-based, and empowering care. Putting current evidence based information into the hands of communities, so they can make empowered choices. What we do: Inform and inspire families with free articles and printables. Tackle the hot birth topics you care about. Provide unbiased information you can trust. Make birth research simple and accessible. Foster a savvy community of professional members. Have a passion for families receiving outstanding care.”
“Our mission is to lead the fight for the health of all moms and babies. Our goals are to end the preventable maternal health risks and deaths, end preventable preterm birth and infant death, and close the health equity gap. March of Dimes believes in a world where every mom and baby is healthy regardless of wealth, race, gender or geography. The U.S. remains among the most dangerous developed nations for childbirth, especially for families of color. Through research, programs and advocacy, our supporters enable us to be there for parents throughout their pregnancies. Since 1938, March of Dimes has helped millions of babies survive and thrive. From polio to preterm births, learn how our mission has evolved since solving one of the world’s major children's health crisis. We’ve accomplished much, but we have a long way to go to create a world where every mom, baby and family is healthy and strong. Find out where we are heading.”
This organization provides a lot of good and free information on endometriosis in handouts and blogs, etc based on research. There are great tips for ways to help manage symptoms as well.
“Endometriosis Australia is a nationally accredited charity that raises awareness, educates and funds research for endometriosis. Efforts have reduced the diagnosis time from 7–12 years to 6.5 years on average, but much work still needs to be done.[…]
Programs include fact sheets, education modules, and fundraising for research into prevention, diagnosis, better treatments, and a cure for the condition. Endometriosis Australia brings together medical, psychology, physiotherapy, allied health and complementary medicine experts to ensure the quality and accuracy of its programs.[…]
We are committed to empowering patients with the knowledge to be in control of their healthcare and promoting patient-centred care solutions.”
Through the link provided by clicking on the title, you will be taken to the fact sheet and download page. This website has a lot of free downloads “designed to help you better understand your diagnoses and treatment options” in English and Spanish. They cover use of pessaries; different surgeries for the bladder, rectum, or vaginal issues; prolapse; interstitial cystitis; perineal tearing; use of botox; use of estrogen; fistulas; how to talk to your doctor about your issues; questions to ask; etc. These are provided from the perspective of a urogynecologist. So, their main focus is the medical side of the issues and medical interventions. It will be a slightly different point of view than what is offered directly from Nourished Roots, as we are not medical providers. However, it can be helpful to have the input of the medical provider’s point of view as well and know about other interventions available. Plus, they give good information about how to talk with your medical provider about these particular interventions as well.

I do not have much experience with this company, but they reached out to be included on this resource page. I looked through their website briefly and they seem like a good resource.
They said they are “dedicated to helping new mothers who are struggling with PPD [postpartum depression] and addiction by providing them, and their families, with information and connecting them to proper treatment options. We are making it our mission to provide the tools necessary to overcome addiction to as many people as possible.”
More resources will be added over time. To recommend other resources not listed here, email help.nourished.roots@gmail.com
