(Frequently Asked Questions)

Why did Aileen start Nourished Roots?

It’s been a dream for a while, finally coming to be. Aileen really believes education is a foundational key to overall health and wellness. Now, it is easy to create accessibility almost anywhere in the world. She felt frustrated only being able to help patients in her given geographical location and having to go through the process of referrals and insurance. Being able to provide education and empower women no matter where they are is an exciting opportunity. See the GOALS section here for more details.

What do the “PT, DPT, PCES, LCCE” behind Aileen’s name mean?

The PT stands for “physical therapist” which means Aileen has a license to practice physical therapy, and that she passed the intense, in depth national board test.

The DPT stands for “doctorate in physical therapy” which is the highest degree Aileen has completed.

The PCES stands for “pregnancy & postpartum corrective exercise specialist” which is an in depth and comprehensive certification, created by another physical therapist, that Aileen has completed.

The LCCE stands for “Lamaze certified childbirth educator” which means Aileen is certified through Lamaze International to teach childbirth education classes. This is a very challenging certification to achieve, and Lamaze requires continuing education to maintain this certification.

How does a physical therapist specialize in pelvic physical therapy? How about specializing in pregnancy and childbirth? Has Aileen done this? Why or why not?

To specialize as a pelvic physical therapist or within pregnancy and childbirth as a physical therapist, you must pursue specific continuing education (classes after graduating with your doctorate) that are focused on these areas. If desired, you can also take standardized tests, log work hours, write a case study, and pay a fee every few years to get special titles and certifications. The most common you will find are the CAPP-Pelvic, CAPP-OB, WCS, and PRPC. Aileen does not have these specific certifications, and has chosen to go a different route with certifications. She took all of the required continuing education classes for both the pelvic specialty (about women) as well as the pregnancy and childbirth specialty, but did not feel like any of the specific certifications listed above really covered her specific niche fully. They either required going into male pelvic health or not going deep enough into women’s pelvic health. Instead she chose to pursue the PCES and LCCE certifications. These are not specific to only physical therapists, but Aileen felt they cover her focus the best. So, she has the PCES and LCCE certifications and has passed all but the male and pediatric specific required classes for the other listed certifications (plus many more). She also has years of experience in this field, working with a large variety of patients.

What is a Lamaze Childbirth Education class?

It can be set it up to be more one on one over the course of a few sessions, or as a class with many in attendance over a few weeks. However it is set up, the classes will cover Lamaze’s “Six Healthy Birth Practices” which are based on the most recent, evidence-based research. These include:

1. Let labor begin on its own.

2. Walk, move around and change positions throughout labor.

3. Bring a loved one, friend or doula for continuous support.

4. Avoid interventions that are not medically necessary.

5. Avoid giving birth on your back and follow your body’s urges to push.

6. Keep mother and baby together; it’s best for mother, baby and breastfeeding.

Of course, Aileen’s perspective will be added in, with the opportunity for attendees to ask questions that could even overlap some into more PT related issues. We will look at some postpartum topics as well. In groups, there will be time for interaction and community building as well as discussion.

What happens during a FREE Meet & Greet vs an Initial or Follow Up one on one consultation?

Before scheduling a one on one consultation, you can schedule a FREE Meet & Greet. Essentially the only difference is the amount of time we have to go in depth and the follow up you will receive via email. With the FREE visit, Aileen may suggest other downloads to buy with some personalization given for use. With the Initial and Follow Up Consultations, Aileen will provide a personalized email with resources/ some of the downloads attached after your visit. When you schedule an initial one on one consultation, you will fill out a form describing your history and current issues/ questions. This form will help give Aileen an idea of what you are wanting to talk about during your initial consultation. For a follow up visit, no form is required. During your consultation, you will have the time to share as much as you feel comfortable sharing and ask questions about whatever issue you have going on, within our scheduled time limit. Aileen may ask for further clarification. Then she will provide education and/or exercise ideas to help with your issues. If the consultation time was not enough to cover everything, Aileen may suggest scheduling a follow up visit. Sometimes it may also make sense to schedule a follow up to check back in on how your issues are progressing in a couple weeks or even a couple months. Aileen may suggest other people or organizations to follow up with as well. All things discussed during a one on one consultation will be kept private and not discussed with others without consent.

Is the consultation considered a telehealth visit?

It is not a physical therapy telehealth visit. For more details on the specifics see the Terms and Conditions page.

Will insurance cover my consultation?

We do not directly take insurance at this time. However, often insurance will cover childbirth education classes. Check with your insurance provider on what they will cover and what needs to be on the invoice in order to get reimbursed, let us know, and we can provide you with an appropriate invoice.
